Whatever the opposite of an athlete is, that’s me. Asthma, reduced lung capacity (40% of a normal adult’s), bad knees, the works. I was scared to start training Ginastica Natural with Adam, but after a bit of prodding (and promises that I’d survive), I tried it out. The movements are somehow simple, yet complex, rhythmic and fun once you get the hang of it. Adam does a great job of letting you start at the shallow end and work your way in deeper. It’s challenging in new ways every class and encouraging to see men, women, children, fighters and every day people all training together to improve their relationship with movement. Practicing weekly (the breathing component is a big benefit) has been instrumental in my achieving and maintaining 80% adult lung capacity and making my movement in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu more fluid and instinctual. I was 49 years old when I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. My biggest challenge at first seemed to be the constant injuries, and pain in my joints and muscles.
